KITLV-Jakarta part of Leiden University Libraries
The Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde (or Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies) in Jakarta was established in 1969 and is since 2014 part of Leiden University Libraries (UBL) in co-operation with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). The main activities of KITLV-Jakarta are the acquisition of relevant and scientific materials on the study of Asia and in particular Indonesia in the field of humanities, social sciences, and law; the digitization of serials; and publishing.

The Office of Leiden University in Indonesia was established in 2015 as addition to the KITLV-Jakarta office. It aims to increase academic collaboration with Indonesian counterparts and functions as a resource centre for information on degree programs offered by Leiden University.

In 2025 the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus (LDE) Universities Centre in Indonesia became part of the Office of Leiden University in Indonesia. The LDE alliance was established in 2012 as a strategic partnership to focus on collaboration in education, research, and knowledge transfer in the Netherlands and internationally. The establishment of the centre reflects the commitment to foster academic and research collaboration between LDE and Indonesian partner institutions.

The office is located in Kuningan, South Jakarta area.

Internship opportunity
KITLV-Jakarta is currently looking for an intern interested in learning more about aspects of library materials processing and digital preservation in the international library field. Student who fill this position will gain practical knowledge of the library field, develop digital preservation skills as well as familiarity with international systems with excellent abilities, and ready to enter the profession with strong, well-rounded abilities.

Offline attendance at the office is compulsory for this programme. The internship lasts from June until August 2026.

Main Responsibilities:

• Execute end-to-end digital preservation processes, including quality control and uploaded to the Leiden University Libraries server.
• Manage periodical collections using the ALMA library services platform.
• Contribute to various operational tasks to support the library’s activities.

Requirements:

• Bachelor students entering at least their 3rd year (5th semester) with a background in Library Science or a related discipline.
• Tech savvy, with solid understanding of modern technology, especially computers and digital devices, and proficiency in using them.
• Possess proactive personality and critical thinking skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as organizational skills.
• Proficient in English and Indonesian.
• Attention to details, hard-working, and team-oriented.
